Jewellery Care
BRASS AND SILVER JEWELLERY:
Brass is more reactive to the elements than fine metals, such as silver, and can tarnish quicker if not cared for properly. I actually really like how brass is constantly changing- bright and sunshiney one moment, and then antique and warm the next. The darkened areas of the jewellery also adds depth and detail to the piece, completely transforming it. Silver also tarnishes but perhaps not as much!
To avoid your jewellery from tarnishing, try to avoid contact between your jewellery and water and chemicals (bleach, perfume, bug spray, suncream, etc). This will cause your jewellery to oxidize faster.
Wearing and touching your jewellery will actually help prevent tarnish. That's because the natural oils/acids from our skin do help rub off and delay some tarnish. When not in use keep your jewellery in a dry and sealed bag/box.
My jewellery is made to be worn and anyway it is impossible to avoid contact with water and the air, so you will need to occasionally clean your jewellery. A favourite method of mine is to use ashes from the fire (very fine ash only so not to scratch the jewellery) with a bit of water and a tooth brush. Bicarbonate of soda and water also do the trick! I will also include a small jewellery polishing cloth with each order which you can use to polish up your pieces.
