This handmade recycled sterling silver ring designed itself as it was being made, and the result was a complete surprise to me. Made from silver sheet- sawn, hammered, bent, soldered, decorated. The design and feeling of this ring evolved at each of these stages. She feels like a shield on your hand, protective and strong. The textures across her body feel wonderful as you run your fingers over her, and she enjoyably catches and reflects light as she lives on your hand.
This ring is part of a 3-part collection of sterling silver rings. Making these rings has been a beautiful return to the skills and methods I favoured many moons ago! They encouraged a step back from sandcasting, and a move back towards traditional silversmithing, and creating truly one off unique pieces. Hands and hammers and saws and torches and flames, all working together to turn a sheet of silver into a multidimensional sculpture, a layered and carefully built piece of jewellery.
