Big Brass Sand Casted Spiral Necklace

This spiral pendant was first shaped by hand out of clay and then cast in recycled brass using the ancient sand casting technique.

Sandcasting gives pieces a textured and antiqued appearance, and is also not 100% controllable, you can never really control how the metal flows, you have to pour with trust and wait and see until you open the casting flasks! And each time the outcome is slightly different! Oh how exciting that is! 

A simple symbol of birth, life, growth, evolution, death, of the connection to the divine, spiralling from the outer ego into the inner soul. I have always been drawn to spirals and find myself creating them without thought. What is interesting is that I also keep finding myself decorating my jewellery with little brass balls in sets of 3 and when I looked into this, the number 3 is associated with knowledge, peace, wisdom and creativity, amongst other things, which I found rather beautiful. 

This pendant comes on a deep orange velvet lace or gold filled chain.
